About the author
After graduating in Management Science (Economics) at Lancaster University in 1991, Ian started a teambuilding, corporate communications and events business, with the help of the Prince’s Trust.
He grew this to a multi-million pound business, based in the UK, working globally with brands including Virgin, Unilever, Marriott, GE, adidas, apple and Rolls Royce.
Running that busines for nearly 30 years, presenting and speaking in public have been at the heart of what Ian has done.
He’s been coach to CEOs, leaders, small business owners and novices alike. He’s been the motivation people have needed just before they walk out on stage. He’s been the person people have turned to when the nerves take over completely just before they present.
In his personal life, Ian lives just outside Manchester in the UK. He is extremely family orientated, married to wife Jess and has four children, George, Amelia, Maisie and Jack. He plays the piano, ‘badly’ in his words, but loves it.
Ian told us that losing his Dad, who he was very close to, aged 21, just before his final university exams, has given him a positive outlook in life. In the words of Ian’s Dad, John, “There’s always a way!”
“I have had the pleasure of working with Ian Taylor for many years in a number of high-quality hotel and hospitality groups including Marriott, De Vere, and Venues of Excellence.
There are so many special memories of this guy’s energy and enthusiasm I could share, but my one very special memory was my debut appearance as the new Sales Director at the De Vere Sales and Marketing Conference.
As I am sure we would all agree it can be very daunting to be on stage but even more so when it’s a room full of senior people with who you will be working with in the future, plus your direct team who you need to hear your vision, along with a number of Directors and the CEO, fall at this hurdle and be reminded forever!
So, I just needed that extra confidence boost. I call it my "Reach for the Stars" moment as Ian stepped in, was there for me, sang a few bars under his breath and whispered a few special words of encouragement to me, but mostly he looked at me and told me I’d got this!
And guess what I smashed it…one of my best ever presentations and all because this amazing chap gave me the confidence that I could do it…we all need that sometimes and I will never forget him for doing that for me.”
